Service parts and we ONLY use MOBIL 1 oil – the approved oil. The Smart engine is very fussy about its oil. We have seen Smarts using a variety of oils and we have seen a high percentage of these cars with valves burnt out – this is often caused by excessive deposits on the valves and spark plugs, causing overheating and the valve burning away or worse the electrode of the spark plug dropping into the cylinder bore, this leads to compression loss and a cylinder head rebuild or new engine. We can only assume these ‘other’ oils burn differently in the combustion chamber causing this excessive deposit build up.
